Gloria Jean Civin

GLORIA JEAN CIVIN passed away peacefully on May 28, 2023. Gloria was born on February 4th 1929. She was the daughter of the late John and Betty Smith of Wheeling, West VA. She married James A. Civin on September 12th 1959 and they were married over 58 years before his passing six years ago. Gloria and Jim lived on over 50 acres on Seneca Lake in Ohio for many years before retiring to Port Charlotte, Florida, and then moving to Seneca, SC in 2007. Gloria was an amazing, talented woman. While living in Ohio she was an Eastern Star (Shriners), she was a skilled water skier, horse rider, and loved roller skating. She raised dogs, loved her horses and won first prizes for her quilts. Gloria and Jim had several camping sites on their property on the lake. Most of their summer renters came back year after year and became good friends. Gloria and Jim had a passion for trains and had a wonderful display in their Seneca home of 3 miniature trains each with their own season – summer, fall and winter. Each display had beautiful Norman Rockwell and Snow Village ceramic houses. Gloria even had a “Ram Cat Alley” street in her fall display with several Clemson Tiger items. When Gloria lost her husband, she rescued Scarlett who became her constant companion and lap dog. Gloria gave Scarlett the best years of her life before she died two years ago. Gloria loved all holidays, with Christmas being her favorite! She would start decorating in the beginning of November. Gloria also had a passion for flowers and birds. The neighbors would always look to her to tell us when we needed to put out our hummingbird feeders each year. She was a firm believer in the Farmers Almanac to tell her when to plant, transplant, etc. Gloria leaves behind so many friends from her 16 years in Seneca. Neighbors who became family, and Belvedere neighbors and staff who significantly brightened her life these last two years. Her friends would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the compassionate caregivers and staff at Belvedere. Gloria is survived by her son Scott Civin (Marlene) of Florida along with two granddaughters – Paige and Sierra. There will be a celebration of Gloria’s life at Belvedere, Wednesday, June 7th at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital which was near and dear to her heart.
