Floyd G. Colegate Jr.

Floyd Glenn Colegate, Jr. May 25, 1953 – January 2, 2026 The family of Floyd G. Colegate, Jr. age 72 years old of West Union, South Carolina shares they said goodbye to Floyd on Friday, January 2, 2026, when he went to be with the Lord. Floyd was born on May 25, 1953, in Cincinnati, OH and graduated in 1971 from Colerain High School. Soon after graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served from 1971 to 1975. Floyd is a member of the North Dearborn American Legion Post 452 in New Alsace, Indiana. Floyd began his working career at Cincinnati Gas and Electric and retired 33 years later as an Electrical Control Supervisor from Duke Energy as the company was named at the time. After retirement Floyd, the Energizer Bunny, as Cheri called him, began a second career in warehousing, first at Levi’s then at Gates Corporation and finally at Toyota (NAPCK) in Hebron Kentucky. He worked at Toyota until August 2024 when he retired for a second time. Floyd loved sports and mainly softball he played with his brother, cousins and other family members for many years and then continued to play pitcher for several other teams until age 68. He also liked bowling and horseshoes. Golf, though, was his passion and the reason he moved to South Carolina. Floyd enjoyed playing golf with family, friends, and acquaintances who became quick friends. Floyd loved God and Country as he was often seen in his red, white and blue hats and clothing. He was also known at Toyota as “Sock Man” because of his always colorful knee-high socks worn with blue jean shorts. Floyd was a loving, giving, prayerful, hardworking, funny “nyuk, nyuk, nyuk” husband, dad, grandpa, brother, cousin, uncle and friend who was always laughing and smiling. He is missed greatly, but family knows he is celebrating with angels as he was called home to heaven. Floyd is survived by his wife Cheryl “Cheri” Lynn Colegate, nee Gast and sons Derek Wayne (Sophatra “Patra”) Colegate and Colton Glenn Colegate as well as grandchildren Layloni Oung, Violet and Jackson Colegate. He is also survived by sisters Deborah (Skip) Peak, Cynthia Tinsley, Rita (Tom) Skeen and brother Tim (Janie) Colegate as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many extended family members. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Sr. and Vera Colegate, brother Dale (Darlene) Broxterman, sister Darla Colegate and brothers-in-law Bobby Tinsley and Dan Horn. A Celebration of Life will be held for Floyd in May in Indiana/Ohio at a date yet to be determined.
