Edith Lenora (Duncan) Holweg

February 12, 2024 - As the morning sun was breaking over the Carolina sky, our sweet mother, Edith, took her last breath. She was 86 years old. Our father was by her side and held her hand as she left for Heaven. She wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Edith Lenora (Duncan) Holweg was born August 8, 1937, to Armon and Rosetta Duncan in Orlovista, Florida, a small suburb outside of Orlando. Her family then moved to Pennsylvania, where she spent most of her childhood. At 16, she followed her older sister Loraine back to Orlando, where she graduated from Edgewater High School, Class of 1955. Edith worked for the Southern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and later went on to become a nurse's aid, working at Sunland Hospital in West Orlando. At 18, she met a tall, handsome Air Force private, who would become her husband and forever friend. Together, she and Marvin handled each challenge life threw their way, never taking each other for granted. Their marriage set an example of what a life-long commitment and story of love is truly about. Our mother was a 35-plus-year breast cancer survivor. She had a stubborn streak a mile wide which kept her alive and fighting all these years. Although she suffered from many health challenges, she would battle through each one of them like a champ. Her memory was sharp and clear and, without question, always right! Our mother was generous with her love and touched the hearts of so many people. Growing up, neighborhood kids would all hang out at our house, welcomed with open arms. She enjoyed taking care of children when she wasn’t working as a nurse’s aid, and she treated each one of them as if they were her own. She loved people and they loved her right back. That was one of her greatest gifts and she owned it well. She loved and truly adored children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren! Her face beamed with happiness whenever she held one of them. They were precious gems in her eyes and she treated them as such. Edith is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Tommy Duncan and her sister, Loraine Mathis. Edith is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, Marvin Holweg. He was the love of her life and her best friend. She is also survived by her four children; Darrell Holweg, Debra Libby, Susan (Ronnie) Flowers, and Laura (Bobby) Powell. Her grandchildren; Lee and Josh Flowers, Kagen Libby, Evan and Hannah Mercado, and Jacob Holweg. And her four great-grandchildren; Christian, Leyton and Raelyn Flowers and Ezekiel Flowers. She will eternally rest in Arden, North Carolina, where her husband will join her when Jesus calls him home. Mom, you are now with Heavenly Father, without pain and surrounded by those who have gone before, including your beloved mother whom we know you have missed since the age of 8. Rest in peace. You will be forever loved.
