Mr. Donald Coleman Couch

Mr. Donald “Don” Coleman Couch, 86, of Pickens, S.C., a remarkable man who touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones Friday, July 14, 2023, after a courageous battle in hospice care fighting Alzheimer’s Disease. Don will forever be remembered for his unwavering love for gardening, his deep faith, his devotion to family, and his selfless service to the community. He was born March 22, 1937 in Rock Hill, S.C. to the late Grover Couch and Katherine Steele. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brother Theodore Couch. He grew up on a farm in Lowery S.C. and attended Chester High School. Don's love for nature and plants blossomed at an early age. He found solace and joy in the art of gardening, cultivating vibrant flowers and nurturing flourishing vegetables. His green thumb was not only evident in his beautifully landscaped yard but also in the joy he shared while sharing his gardening knowledge with others. Don's faith was an integral part of his life. He was a devoted member of his church and served as a Deacon at Northside Baptist Church, finding comfort, strength, and fellowship within its walls. His genuine kindness and unwavering belief touched the lives of those who crossed his path, creating a lasting impact on his faith community. Family was of paramount importance to Don. He found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. His playful spirit, loving guidance, and cherished moments will forever be etched in their hearts; a testament to the profound love he had for his family. Don's dedication to his community was evident through his selfless acts of service. He wholeheartedly believed in giving back and made a difference in the lives of others. One of his notable contributions was delivering Meals on Wheels, ensuring that those in need received nourishment and companionship. His compassionate nature and willingness to lend a helping hand inspired those around him to follow in his footsteps. Don's professional journey was marked by his unwavering dedication and work ethic. He spent 30 years at Duke Power, leaving an indelible impact on his colleagues and contributing to the growth and success of the company. Prior to his career, Don honorably served in the Army for four years, embodying bravery and dedication to his country. He was also a member of the Masons, Keowee Lodge #79. While Alzheimer's disease ultimately took its toll on Don's physical and cognitive abilities, his spirit remained strong and resilient. He faced his battle with grace and dignity, surrounded by the love and support of his family. Don will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 56 years Brenda Couch, brother William “Bill” Couch (Faye) of Chester S.C., sister Becky Cannon (L.B.) of Chester S.C., daughter Melissa Tibbs (Edwin), grandchildren Ashton Johnson, Emily McDaniel (Kaleb), and Clayton Johnson, friends, and community members. His memory will continue to inspire and remind us of the importance of faith, love, service, and perseverance. Don Couch, a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and dedicated servant of the community, has left a lasting imprint on our hearts. May his soul find eternal peace, and may we carry forward his spirit of love, compassion, and selflessness.
